What is VESA?VESA stands for Video Electronics Standards Association and describes the standard of attaching monitors, televisions and flat screens to a monitor mount using 4 standard threaded holes on the back of the unit. The VESA information can also be specified as a VESA standard, VESA mount, VESA-norm or VESA mounting holes.
The VESA standard makes it possible to standardize requirements for the secure attachment of monitors to wall mounts, desk mounts or ceiling mounts. This can help to prevent misunderstandings and prevent you from being tied to the manufacturer of your device.
In the best case, the manufacturer gives the information on the data sheet of the device. If this is not the case, there are 4 threaded holes on the back of the TV that are a certain distance apart.
If you measure the distance between the horizontal and vertical threaded holes on the back of the TV, the VESA standard can be defined (VESA norm = horizontal distance in mm x vertical distance in mm).
There are three standard VESA classifications: VESA MIS-D, VESA MIS-E and VESA MIS-F. In addition, there are rarer classifications such as VESA MIS-A, VESA MIS-B and VESA MIS-C. The different ratings also give the information about the allowed weight and the inch size of the device.
Monitors that are compatible with the MIS-D have a hole spacing of 75x75 and 100x100 mm, MIS-E has a distance of 200x100 or 200x200 mm and MIS-E a distance of 400x200, 400x400, 600x200, 600x400 or 800x400 mm.
Some monitors from certain manufacturers, such as Loewe, LG OLED, Sony or Apple do not have a VESA mounting hole pattern. To attach such a monitor to a bracket, you need a VESA adapter that makes your device VESA-enabled.
If you need a matching wall-, desk- or ceiling mount for your TV, other factors besides the VESA standard are of great importance. Also, the weight and the inch size of the TV have to match. For example, VESA MIS-D also states that the TV should weigh no more than 14 kg and that the size should not exceed 22 inches. For MIS-E, the guideline values are up to 22.7 kg and 29 inches. MIS-F allows the mounting of monitors up to 113,6 kg and 75 inches.
On some monitors, screens or TV sets, the VESA mount is located in a recess on the rear panel, or TV outputs/cables are in the way. If the VESA mount of the TV mount does not fit the TV perfectly, simply screw spacers or spacer bolts between the TV and the wall mount or table mount. The spacers are screwed into the VESA threaded holes of the TV and then the TV mount can be attached without any problems. The spacer bolts or spacers can be ordered in many of the online shops that specialise in monitor mounts.
